 Platinum Guild to Host Advanced Bench Seminars in Five Cities
Platinum Guild International is sponsoring five advanced level bench seminars in various locations between July 31 and October 2 in the United States.
Attendees will learn first hand from Jurgen Maerz, an accomplished platinum smith and the director of technical education for Platinum Guild International USA. The seminar includes the following: Platinum Bench Techniques The seminar begins with a comprehensive presentation by Maerz on the latest in Platinum technology. Maerz will review a variety of advanced platinum bench techniques, including specialty repairs and sizing, casting platinum in the small shop, and polishing and finishing techniques. The presentation will also explain the advantages, features and benefits of using different Platinum alloys to prevent manufacturing problems. Advanced Stone Setting The hands-on advanced stone setting demonstration features Maerz and Brad Simon, two master jewelers, working side-by-side on setting projects. The demonstration offers a dual perspective on method and technique, including Pave, Channel, Flush, Princess, and Marquise. A large screen will show a close-range video projection of the work to highlight the intricate craftsmanship. Advanced Fabrication Simon and Maerz will lead a demonstration on the most advanced fabrication techniques for complex mountings, multiple stone rings, ornate crowns, and intricate filigree. The jewelers will also discuss soldering and fusion welding processes and forming and shaping techniques. Bench Tips & Other Tricks This lunchtime demonstration provides numerous jewelry repair tips as well as entertaining magic tricks.
The full day seminar runs $195 with early registration and includes a networking lunch with the seminar leaders.
